Friends of WomenNC,
We’d like to take this opportunity to say what a great pleasure it has been working and communicating with you in the last two years, since the inception of WomenNC. Volunteering your time, contributions, and other forms of support have enabled WomenNC to evolve into a viable organization at a very significant pace.
Highlighted below are the achievements of WomenNC since 2009:
- Sponsorship of four CSW Student Fellows at both the 2010 and 2011 United Nations Commission on the Status of Women in NYC (representing five N.C. universities from 12 applicant sites). Our WomenNC Fellowship program has been revered as a model organizational and inclusive community approach amongst U.N. CSW groups.
- Active initiative support for U.S. treaty ratification of CEDAW
- Recognition by regional governmental entities (Office of Governor Perdue, and public servants from State government, Congressional & international organizations)
- Developed supportive relations with community civic groups such as Women’s Club of Raleigh, InterAct, Soroptimist, Stop Sex Trafficking, AAUW, and United Nations Association - Wake County Chapter.
- Media – Dedicated website & social media, press releases/articles in print & online
- Student Fellowship presentations at InterAct, Women's Club of Raleigh, AAUW, NOW Raleigh, UNC - Chapel Hill, NCSU, Meredith College, Soroptimist International, Church Women United, N.C. Women United, Junior Women's Club, N.C. Council for Women, Wake County Commission for Women, United Nations Association - Wake County Chapter.
- Awarded 501© (3) status
In order for WomenNC to continue to evolve, we are embarking on a new phase of strategic development. Our goal is to expand the scope of the organization and the involvement of a broader group of individuals and affiliations. At the same time, we want to draw on the talents, passions and ideas of current and future WomenNC associates.
WomenNC is providing two primary avenues for increased support for our organization via an annual membership campaign and volunteer opportunities to serve on one of five operating committees. You can sign up using the WomenNC Membership & Committee Sign-Up Form found here. Just download it using your computer, fill it out and send it in.
The annual tax-deductible WomenNC membership fee is $25 for an individual, $40 for family and $15 for the students. Dues will run from July 1st through June 30th; with membership open throughout the year. Membership benefits include:
- Discounted fee for WomenNC Events
- Bi-Monthly General Meetings including International Films, Guest Speakers, and more
- E-Blast Newsletters three times a year, additional communications as need arises
- Free training about involvement in UN Commission on the Status of Women Conference & attendance options
Participating as a WomenNC committee member will enable you to contribute to achieving the goals of WomenNC. New ideas for focus areas and outreach programs are encouraged! Current committees include Students Fellowship, Finance/Fundraising, Public Relations and Communications, Administrative/Membership, and the CEDAW/Research Committee. Committees will meet independently, with the option to attend bi-monthly Board of Director meetings.
We hope you will continue to support the evolution of WomenNC through your membership and service. WomenNC certainly could not have been nearly as productive without your support in the past and look forward, with your help, to an even greater future!
For additional information about membership or for more in-depth description of the committees, Sue Ellen Rosen, our Public Relations Chair will be happy to elaborate. Feel free to pass WomenNC opportunities on to other potential members. We look forward to your participation and welcome new ideas and members!
Once again, you can find a downloadable version of the WomenNC Membership & Committee Sign-Up Form here. An online version of the form with online payment will be available at a later date as well.
Best regards and thank you for your continued support,
