2011 Fellowship

Information about the 56th United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) Conference, held in New York City, February 22 to March 4, 2011, can be found by clicking here.

In accordance with its multi-year programme of work (ECOSOC resolution 2009/15), the 2011 priority theme of the Commission on the Status of Women is “Access and participation of women and girls to education, training, science and technology, including for the promotion of women’s equal access to full employment and decent work”.
The Commission will also evaluate progress in the implementation of the agreed conclusions from its fifty-first session on “The elimination of all forms of discrimination and violence against the girl child”.

Summary of Fellows and Research

Four students were awarded 2011 WomenNC Fellowships from NC State University and UNC Chapel Hill presented the following topics and North Carolina “best practices” organizations to North Carolina citizens and at the United Nations:

  • Interpersonal Violence Prevention and Policy in US Higher Education – HAVEN and One Act
  • Sex Education Policies and Adolescent Pregnancy in the US and NC – Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Campaign of North Carolina (APPCNC) and El Pueblo, Inc.
  • Child Labor in NC Agriculture: Human Rights Frameworks for the Girl Child – Student Action with Farmworkers and Farmer Advocacy Network
  • Sex Trafficking in NC – NC Stop Human Trafficking
