WomenNC extends a warm thank you to all who attended our February 19th event!
Despite chilly temperatures, 200 guests gathered at the Hunt Library to listen to our keynote speaker and WomenNC Fellowship alumna, Annie Clark, pay tribute to the three NC university students who tragically lost their lives this month, and listen to our seven 2015 Fellows highlight their research findings & best practice models on the status of women in North Carolina.
The evening concluded with the crowd joining in on the lyrics of “Let’s Ratify CEDAW”, led by WomenNC Board of Advisor and NCSU professor emeritus, Dr. Slater Newman.
On March 11th, our fellows will represent the Tarheel State, when they present their research at the 59th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations in New York – wish them luck!
Thank you to the elected officials who attended our event, including Elaine Marshall, NC Secretary of State, Janet Cowell, NC State Treasurer, Susan Evans, WCPSS Board Member, District 8 and Apex Town Council Members, Bill Jensen and Nicole Dozier. With support such as this, we can improve our great state and achieve gender equality for all!
A special thank you to NC Secretary of State, Elaine Marshall, for her continuous encouragement for WomenNC’s good-works and we congratulate Ms. Marshall on her recent appointment as the new President of the National Association of Secretaries of State.
None of our work is possible without the support of so many! Thank you to those who generously donated on February 19 and purchased raffle tickets (congratulations to the winners of our fabulous prizes), our Event Sponsors, Grant Supporters, and WomenNC Partners.
We look forward to reporting back to you about the enriching experiences of the WomenNC team at the U.N. and our ongoing advocacy programs.
