What: The Universal Declaration of Human Rights was approved by the United Nations General Assembly on December 10, 1948. It comprises 30 articles defining rights for all people: civil, political, economic, social, and cultural; and the responsibility of all people to their communities. It was drafted over a two-year period under the leadership of Eleanor Roosevelt. It declares that human rights are universal to be enjoyed by all people, no matter who they are or where they live.
For the past 22 years the United Nations Association of Wake County members Dr. Dan Figgins and the late Dr. Slater Newman, in coordination with Exploris Middle School, have read this important document aloud.
