It is a time of reflection, this time of year. In my middle age I have been considering how I have come to be the person I am today:
A woman with a strong commitment to gender equity.
Who taught me that I should strive to be all that I wanted to be–not in spite of, but because of being a woman? She who did not get this chance.
Who taught me that there were some things in life worth fighting for–sometimes in a loud and strident voice? She who told me that life was not a popularity contest.
Who taught me that I must never give up striving for what mattered to me? She who was often thwarted.
Who is she? My mother.
In this time of reflection, I invite you to consider who is it that made you who you are–you who values justice, you who believes in equal opportunity and recognition, you who commits to making the world a better place.
In the spirit of the holidays, take a moment to recognize THAT person and express your gratitude to the one who inspired you to think about the world beyond yourself. Who is she? Who is he? Acknowledge them for their work in shaping you.
Then, make a tangible gift in their honor to WomenNC. It is for this important person that you support WomenNC’s mission of empowering the next generation to advance gender equality. It is because of them that you will help us achieve a world free of gender discrimination.
After you have made your donation, print out this page, fill in the blanks of the certificate below, cut it out, and then give your gift. This is one way to say thank you to THAT person. Then, share your story on our social media pages. Tell others about THAT person too!
I wish you and yours a new year that is brighter…for all. And, I thank you for your generosity.
