WomenNC Scholars have been hard at work!

Scholars have recently submitted their preliminary project topics! Over the next 9 months they will research these issues of gender inequity, formulate public policy solutions to "move the needle forward," and advocate for them in front of local decision makers, improving the lives of women and girls across the state. Take a look at the breadth of their interests:

Informed consent and free speech: how crisis pregnancy centers undermine bodily autonomy in women and erode trust in licensed medical providers.

The effects of food Insecurity for women and children in Northeast North Carolina.

How the internalization of negative stereotypes affects academic achievement of Black women at historically black colleges and universities.

How to improve the reproductive and sexual health literacy of Latina immigrants in Durham?

How can promoting sustainable agricultural practices in North Carolina improve the lives of migrant women workers.

The public health implications of low representation of Black and Brown women in healthcare leadership roles in North Carolina.

What barriers exist that prevent Asian Americans and Pacific Islander women from receiving proper mental health care in Wake County and how can we prevent those barriers?

What strategies can Triangle-area community colleges implement to increase the graduation rates of students who are single mothers?

The need for public health support structures for rural North Carolina college-educated women to decrease the "brain drain" in these communities.

The negative effects of abortion restrictions on Black women who have been sexually assaulted.

How can restorative justice principles and practices improve upon existing punitive school discipline processes in North Carolina public middle and high schools?

We are so excited to learn where their research takes them!
