Gabriela Goodman is currently a student at UNC Chapel Hill.
She is researching the effects of COVID-19 on access to childcare and how its availability or lack thereof correlates with maternal employment, income and career prospects.
She is also exploring the emotional impact a lack in childcare resources has on maternal well-being.
"I’m finishing up the data collection phase of my research and working on my report. I’ve collected data by distributing a survey to parents in Durham, NC with kids five or younger. So far, my findings illustrate that parents have struggled to obtain reliable child care throughout the pandemic, negatively impacting well-being and ability to maintain desired employment levels, particularly for women. I’m excited to continue analyzing my data and writing about my results."
